What to Expect in Your Free Bankruptcy Consultation
Meeting with a Bankruptcy Lawyer the First Time
At Nicole Anderson Law in Forest Lake, Minnesota we work with people who are seeking protection under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code from all over the Twin Cities Metro area. We understand that the Bankruptcy laws can seem overwhelming and confusing, and it can be hard to know exactly how they would apply to your specific situation. That is why we provide a free initial consultation either in person, in our office, or at a meeting location that is convenient for you. We understand that you probably have not hired a lawyer before, and that you want to feel comfortable with the person you choose to work with you. We want you to be able to learn about how bankruptcy laws would apply to your situation, your options for moving forward, and how our experienced bankruptcy lawyers can help you obtain a fresh financial start.
What Do I Need to Bring to the Free Consultation?
For our bankruptcy lawyers to be able to give you the best options for your specific situation, we need as much information about your current debt and any assets that you own. This allows us to provide you information about what type of bankruptcy you are eligible for. This also will help us answer questions about what will happen to your house or your car(s).
Most of the form is very easy and straight-forward and will not take you more than a few minutes to fill out. Some of the financial issues covered in the form include:
- What assets (home, car, camper, motorcycle, etc) do you own?
- A list of your credit cards, monthly minimum payments and current balances
- Your mortgage (and second mortgage if applicable) information and balance
- Your pay period, average paycheck and pay frequency
- Any child support or other government assistance you receive
Isn’t a Free Consultation Essentially Just a Sales Pitch to Hire the Firm?
What you can expect is honest answers to your questions, and help understanding how bankruptcy would apply to your situation. What you do NOT have to put up with is a high-pressure sales pitch. We simply want to provide answers, and then we will follow up at some point after the meeting. A lot of people we talk to end up NOT filing bankruptcy, and that is just fine.
